ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to bring social media under full legal control, banning content against religion, national dignity, institutions and politicians, ideological basis based on religious hatred, and blocking content against cultural values. Relevant companies will be banned. According to the Ministry of IT, a draft rules for controlling social media in the country has been prepared and sent to the Cabinet Committee. In the draft, the Ministry of IT has stated in the rules that religion, national Companies will be fully bound to stop the promotion of content that violates the ideological basis of dignity, institutions and politicians based on religious hatred, and cultural values. Strict action will be taken against companies violating the PTA decision. Will go and they will be completely closed.
The IT ministry said it would not impose any restrictions on freedom of expression, adding that the text of the draft would allow service providers with more than 500,000 users and social media companies to join the PTA. While accession from Pakistan, especially from Islamabad, will be necessary, those who violate and upload immoral material will be subject to fines and penalties under the PICA Act 2016.
Defamatory content can be reported on YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, Google Plus and any other social media website. Unlawful under section 292,293,294,504 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The content will be banned and the spread of false information will be stopped. According to the rules, service providers and social media network owners will be informed about the removal of the content and the name of the complainant will also be kept secret. I will keep in mind that Article 19 of the Constitution gives the right to freedom of expression to any citizen in the country.
