LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to impose a complete lockdown on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha on July 28 from 12 noon to August 5. Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan said that a strict lockdown has been decided for the next nine days from 12 noon on July 28 to curb the spread of corona. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corona chaired by Raja Basharat, Provincial Law Minister at the Chief Minister's House, Punjab. During the briefing of the Cabinet Committee, it was informed that the number of cases of Corona virus in Punjab province has been declining and no death has been reported from Corona in the last 24 hours.
During the meeting, Law Minister Raja Basharat said that the government was close to defeating Corona and now the number of cases should not increase again due to negligence. He said that medical stores, grocery stores, transport and offices were open during the lockdown in the province. Will be and only the markets will be closed. The provincial law minister said that strict action should be taken against the perpetrators of artificial inflation on the occasion of Eid and expressed frustration over non-implementation of SOPs in cattle markets. He directed that Eid-ul-Adha prayers and sacrificial gatherings should be stopped. Raja Basharat said that after Eid, a meeting of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) would recommend the opening of restaurants and hotels.
It may be recalled that the Punjab government had decided to implement 'Smart Lockdown' in the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha in the light of the directives of the federal government to curb the spread of Corona virus in the cattle markets. Presiding over a meeting to review the arrangements for the implementation of the Corona virus, Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik had said that the protection of human lives was of utmost importance to the government and efforts were being made to control the spread of Corona virus in cattle markets. All possible steps will be taken, including strict implementation of OPs.
Additional Chief Secretary (Admission) Momin Agha, Inspector General of Police Shoaib Dastgir, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Care Department Retired Capt. Muhammad Usman, Lahore Division Commissioner Danish Afzal and Deputy Inspector General (Operations) were present at the meeting. , Lahore, Ashfaq Ahmed Khan, Secretary Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, all Divisional Commissioners and Regional cops (RPOs) participated through video link.
The Chief Secretary had said that the positive results of Smart Lockdown have come to light in Lahore and other affected cities of the province and since then the number of new cases of Corona virus has been declining. Activities could accelerate the spread of the corona virus, he added, adding that the decision was made in the public interest in light of the experience of last Eid al-Fitr.
The Chief Secretary directed all the Divisional Commissioners to strictly implement the SOPs, including ban on wearing of masks and entry of elderly persons and children in cattle markets. He said that the Department of Health, Local Government and Livestock Officials should be deployed in cattle markets and joint teams of administration and law enforcement agencies should be formed to inspect. It is believed that the number of people infected with corona virus in Punjab has reached 92,073 cases while 2,116 People have died.
